The best gift for writers and any creative person in your life... including you!

What is the pertinacity?
pertinacity
/ˌpəːtɪˈnasɪti/
- the quality of being pertinacious;
persistence.
Are you or someone you love a writer? We’ll send you letters in the mail that feed the writer’s soul.
Remember snail mail? What if it contained more than bills? What if you looked forward to going to the mailbox to see if you’ve gotten this month’s letter from Hope, the aspiring writer on an unbelievable journey? (Like you!). That’s The Pertinacity.
If you’re a writer, you’ve experienced rejection, doubt, and impostor syndrome. You’ve wondered why others have made it and you’re still working to get there. If so, you’re in good company. Most of those we consider literary greats today went through their own bouts of self-doubt and handled lots of rejections. Some didn’t even get to see their work published or appreciated in their lifetimes.
That’s where The Pertinacity comes in. Written for writers by a writer who has seen all of the above in spades (rejection, doubt, impostor syndrome), The Pertinacity is a letter full of the fuel to stick to your dreams.
Your inspiration to stick to it will come in the form of a letter from Hope, a character who is an aspiring writer. She’s found a way to go back in time to meet and interview the literary greats… before they became the legendary writing forces we know today. You’ll get Hope’s stories about her own writing journey, plus copies of the rejection letters our most famous writers racked up, a bit of color about their writing journeys and how they stuck through it to live their dreams.
In your letter from Hope, you’ll learn her unusual story, hear her impressions of the famous writers she meets, and get the tips for productivity and creativity that she’s gathered… and fall in love with writing all over again.
Let The Pertinacity charm you into remembering what was magical and alluring about the idea of writing in the first place… and give you all the fuel you need to find your own pertinacity.
A perfect gift for the writer or artist in your life, or a wonderful treat to give yourself, a precious little treat with words and stories you’ll want to read over and over.
Sticking to it is the only quality you need to make your writing dreams come true. Some of us were raised to think that talent was the thing that made it happen. But we’ve all read about the geniuses undiscovered in their lifetimes to know that’s not the only thing. Some people tell us that connections are what does it. But there are enough tales of writers who took their destinies into their own hands to prove that’s not the only thing either.
Turns out pertinacity is all you need.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I join/give The Pertinacity as a gift?
There’s something special about receiving “snail” mail. For those of us who love writing and reading, memories of a book in our hands are among the first things that led us to writing. And, if you’re like me, letters from pen-pals were a big highlight of your early years. Although I’ve loved the transition to the ease of email, there’s still nothing quite like holding a paper letter.
What’s more, when many of our favorite writers experienced rejection, it was back in the days of sending off a paper manuscript and then waiting for the response to come in the SASE you’d included with your lovingly-packaged words. Seeing snippets of the actual letters brings this experience home… and helps you remember that despite the setbacks, the artist kept on going… and you should too.
When will I get my first letter?
Letters are sent via USPS, from the U.S., first class once per month. If you buy before the 21st of the month, your letter will mail out on the 21st. If you buy after that, your first mailing will go out within 7-10 business days of your payment.
I don’t believe in “misery loves company.” Why would I want to read about literary rejections that my favorite writers got?
Neither do we! The point of taking time to see the ups and downs of the creative process for even our most revered writers, and in realizing that our favorite writers have all made it through, is to help us see that perseverance pays off. It’s not about lingering in the rejection. Being rejected doesn’t mean you’re “not worthy” or not talented or not destined for literary greatness, and a reminder that the literary greats got rejected too is a tool to put things in perspective.
Every book you’ve loved has at least one one-star review, and some of the “one star reviews” of rejection from publishing houses and agents could have stopped our favorite authors in their tracks… but didn’t. So it’s about being uplifted by the perseverance (the pertinacity, if you will) of writers and creative people… including you!
The Pertinacity is a reminder to keep on going, a dose of inspiration, an adventure and a wonderful offline reminder that you are in great company when you go for big dreams.
There’s nothing quite like a letter, and we just don’t get enough of those these days (bills don’t count!). The Pertinacity aims to change that.
Can I give The Pertinacity to myself?
Of course! Personal memberships and gift options are the same price. Basically, a personal membership is a gift you give yourself.
How do I let my gift recipient know the letters are coming?
We’ve crafted a special, customizable announcement letter. Click here to download it. Then personalize it, print it, put it in a box and wrap it. (We recommend a BIG box. Gets ’em every time).
Is The Pertinacity just for writers?
While it’s true that The Pertinacity features literary inspiration, the message of each package is about perseverance. So all creative types – actors, painters, composers, even casual hobbyists, love the uplifting messaging of the lovingly-prepared mailings. It’s like getting a “you can do it” letter from an old friend. But it’s not just for creatives, either (and doesn’t being human mean being creative, anyway?). It’s a popular present for teachers, parents, and college students, someone starting off in a new career, or anyone who could use a weekly reminder to power through.
